24th January 2005 Club
Chair John Bayer announced at Committee tonight that the Club's application
to become an FA Charter Standard Club had been successful. Both the adult and
junior sections of Norsemen FC now have the prestigious FA kite mark. John
said "Following our massive Football Foundation award, this is another
important step forward for the club. Players looking to
participate in the North London region can now be sure that there is a
club that offers high standard facilities, qualified FA coaching and levels
of administration that have been checked and approved by the
FA." To join Norsemen please refer to the contact details on our
website.
20th December 2004 Fantastic news! Our 100
year old set of changing rooms is set to be replaced by superb modern
changing facilities thanks to a £838,808 Christmas bonus for sport from the
Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity. The
cash boost for the Edmonton Sports and Social Club, home of Norsemen Football
Club will allow work to start on the construction of a fully inclusive
complex which will house 10 changing rooms to stand alongside the 5 full
sized football pitches and floodlit training areas we use. Funded
by the FA Premier League, the Football Association, Sport England and the
Government, the Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalizing the grass
roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing
football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in
communities. Peter Lee, Chief Executive of the Foundation, welcomed the funding
package: “This scheme underlines the Foundation’s
commitment to replace old and outdated facilities with a new generation of
pitches and changing facilities for all the community to enjoy. As our
national game football needs to reflect the make up of our society and this
new project is set to give a much needed boost to sports participation in
Enfield.” John Bayer, Chair of Norsemen FC said: "This
is one of the most significant moments in our club's long history.
As one of the team of four people who worked on this project, I know the huge
amount of time and effort put in on behalf of our members to firstly raise
£250,000 from the New Opportunities Fund to purchase the grass pitches at
Grocer's and then secondly secure this magnificent award from the
Football Foundation. Our application for FA Charter Standard Club status has
also just been submitted and with our pitches secured and these
brand new facilities coming on stream we can look forward to the future with
great optimism." He
added: "We
must thank Ray Green, Peter Withers and Nigel Chamberlain for all they have
done. We owe them an enormous debt of gratitude.Walk tall you blue
giants!"
9th November 2004 As
hopefully you have noticed there is a new button on the left of your screen

club and also comes in a downloadable .pdf format.

black every Saturday.
1st November 2004 On
Saturday November the 13th it is Old boys Day up at the club if you missed
out on a letter all the information is below. Dear Vice President/Honorary Member I have pleasure in writing to
advise you on behalf of the Club that this seasons ‘ Old Boys Day’ will be
held on Saturday 13th November kick off
1.45 pm when the 1st XI are due to entertain Old Isleworthians in the
first round of the AFA Senior Cup. The Reserves also have a home cup tie and
there will be a full supporting programme. I am pleased to report that the Club continues in a good state of
health and we have around 140 playing members, being able to field our nine
sides each week with a couple of substitutes. The 1st XI who finished sixth
in the league last season have started more slowly than usual having won one,
lost two and gained a very creditable draw at Winchmore Hill as well as still
being in both the AFA Senior Cup and the Middlesex Cup. The Reserves and the
rest of the Club have had a similar mixed start but with our mass of young
talent we are hopeful of success especially in the cups in which we still
have a good entry. The Youth section continues to flourish and the
progression of young players to the senior section is expanding and proving
very beneficial. We have acquired exclusive use of a floodlight all weather
training area at the new school built on part of the old Grocers ground and
our application for a grant from the Football Foundation for a new changing
room complex is progressing through it various processes. If this does
materialise we will have an excellent facility at Norsemen. It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the sad loss of one of Norsemen’s favourite
sons, Eric Bailey, who died recently following a long illness. Eric, a vice
president and long standing member of the Club played in the sixties and
seventies for the Reserves before captaining a very successful 3rd XI. He
then became Chairman of the Committee for a number of years, adding to the
tremendous contribution he made to Norsemen. Sadly we also recently lost Larry
Ward , who captained the Nomads in the mid 1990’s , which was both a
successful football and social side. I enclose details of a monthly lottery draw which we have launched. We
hope you will consider supporting this and our Treasurer, Nigel Chamberlain
looks forward to receiving your subscription and any kind donations. Unfotunately our president ‘Ollie Lodge’ is not too well but he has
asked me to send you his regards and looks forward to seeing you on the 13th. Good Health Yours sincerely Mike Pearl Hon.Gen.Secretary
11th October 2004 Norsemen
FC would like to congratulate David Simpson who was recently presented
with a national Football Development Award by the Football Association in
recognition of his outstanding work as a volunteer. The award was made at the
AFA Council meeting in September and David's certificate and memento were
presented by John Wilson, Chair of the AFA. Well done Lord Edmonton our
Norseman of the Year
2nd October 2004 It is
with great sadness that I have to inform members of the recent passing,
following a lengthy illness of our beloved and respected Member and Vice
President Eric Bailey. Eric,
Edmonton born and bred, joined the Norsemen in the early sixties and played
for a number of years in a very strong and successful Reserve side. He then
moved on to be an inspirational skipper of the 3rd XI and led them to both
league and cup success. Eric was a small and compact inside forward who was
skilful on the ball and who could be best described as a ‘Cheeky Chappie’
both on and off the field. He served on the Committee for many years and was
Chairman from the late seventies to the mid eighties and cherished the honour
of proposing the toast to the Club at the Centenary Dinner in 1995. Eric,
who also played cricket for Edmonton Cricket Club made a great contribution
to Norsemen over the years and will be remembered for his wit, fun and
enthusiasm for life and we are thankful to have enjoyed this.
20th September 2004 Club
Chair John Bayer announced at Committee today that the new floodlit
astro-turf pitch on the school grounds and the 60 yard by 40 yard grass pitch
next to it, will be for the exclusive use of Norsemen FC and Norsemen Youth FC from
October 1st 2004. These brand new facilities, in addition to the 5 quality
grass pitches and pitches on Church Street on Saturday and Sunday mornings we
already have, provide us with facilities that must be the envy of most grass
roots football clubs in London. With 15 qualified FA coaches and superb
training facilities, we now hope our application to the Football Foundation
for a new changing room complex will be successful.
16th September 2004 Now
that the season is about to start Committee meetings will now be every Monday
at 7:30pm. These meetings will be normal selection meeting up until Monday
11th October when the next business meeting will take place at the same time
of 7:30. The
last space on the Committee has been filled with the appointment of Ronnie
Robinson as 6th team skipper. Congratulations to him and good look in the new
season (I am sure he doesn’t know what he is letting himself in for).

are now available in the
Results and Fixtures section
18th August 2004 Below
is a letter from Mike Pearl that all of you Norsemen should have already
received. Much of the information has been covered in the News section
already but I have included it for your information. Dear Member, The European Championships are now just a memory, summer has finally
arrived and the commencement of the 2004/2005 season will soon be upon us.
The newly elected committee has already held its first meeting and training
commenced on the 2nd August and will be held at the Grocers ground every
Tuesday from 7pm. Changing will be in the main dressing room but I would ask
members to respect other sections who are midway through their season. League
and Cup matches for the top 4 teams commence on the 18th September and for
the remaining teams on the 2nd October. Also there will be a number of
friendly matches arranged so that you can get match fit. It is now a compulsory requirement by the FA ( to have an affair with
a secretary) for all players representing a club to be registered prior to
competing in either a league or cup match. Therefore I would ask you to
complete the enclosed registration form and either present it at the Club on
a Tuesday evening, where a committee member will be in attendance, or return
it to me. Unless you are registered you cannot be selected. Subscriptions
will be due at the time of registration together with any outstanding fines. I enclose details of the Norsemen monthly prize draw of which your
support will be greatly appreciated. Wishing you an enjoyable and successful season Yours sincerely Mike Pearl Hon.Gen.Secretary
17th August 2004 It is
now an FA requirement that all players representing the club are
registered with the club prior to competing in either a league or cup match
for the club. Members have been sent the necessary registration forms
and they must be returned to Mike Pearl or handed to a Committee member
who will be present on Tuesday night after training or on Saturday afternoons
as soon as friendlies start. Forms
will also be available on the
Contact Us page and from the Club on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Annual
subscriptions should also be enclosed with the form. If you are not registered you cannot be selected for
league or cup games.
17th August 2004 The
next committee meeting will be on Monday 6th September at 7:30pm
6th August 2004 As
hopefully you can see, the Norsemen Website has had a bit of an overhaul in
the closed season (hopefully for the better). So please bear with us as we
hope to get the site running smoothly for the new season. If you find that
there are problems with the site, please
Contact Us and let us know. Also, as it is still being tweaked
please let us know of any ideas that you want to incorporate into the new
site. Any input will be gratefully received.
5th August 2004 As
you can see on the left we have added a button for the
Disciplinary Code. This has been revised for
